I am a new tractor owner, but have been reading the forum for several months. I decided to use gease in the steering gear box to eliminate leaking oil. I have power steering. I installed the grease zerk and filled the steering box, but also filled the control valve assembly with grease. Should I have not used grease because of the power steering or do I have some bad seals/ o rings. Any help would be appreciated.

Should the seals on the control valve box have kept the grease from entering? Can I keep this from happening by replacing the seals? I am trying to avoid disassembly of the gear box. I already have the control valve box off and can replace seals and o rings there without too much trouble.

I just rebuilt my steering box on my 861 about a month ago. There is a seal in the adapter plate that is between the steering gear box and the control valve. I would rebuild the whole assembly since you would have most of it apart to replace that seal. It is not hard to to, just takes some time.

It's not that big of a job to replace those seals in the gearbox, when you disassemble it to clean it out, you might want to go ahead and replace them and put in the proper gearoil.
