I've seen posts being negative on using greaes to stop the leaks. Ford recommended using grease in 1962- did they later change that recommendation?

Dunno, but I have 62, 64, 65, and 74 Fords. If one leaks, I put in Lubriplate #105 grease. End of problem. 105 is thicker than 140 wt gear oil but thinner than regular "grease gun" grease. It's thick enough to stay put, but thin enough to flow to do it's thing.

Sounds like your doing what Ford recomended which was using grade "0" grease which is lighter than grade 1. I found that info in a service bulletin from Ford in 1962.

I dunno. Not familiar with the Ford grease specs.

Hey txblu,

My steering box leaks slightly. I'd like to try the #105 Lubriplate. Where do you acquire it? Auto parts store?

Thanks for any help.

It's at auto stores. Marketed in a white tube with blue cap and red writing. Says "engine rebuilding grease" on the tube as that is what it's made for but it is perfect for old gear boxes including your shredder.
