i have a ford tractor that i beleive to be a 861,it has all featchers of 861 serial number is only number i can find .serial number is <>111912<>.can some one id.and tell me is it a 861 or something else. thanks bill

You can't really tell from the s/n what model it is. That number could be a 1956 600, 700, 800 or 900 series or it could be a 1960 601, 701, 801 or 901 series. As mentioned already, the actual model number should be stamped just above the serial number. The link below will show you what I mean.

One way to tell an 800 series from a 801 series is the grille. Does it look like a Jubilee grille with thin vertical fins like this:

If so, it's likely an 800 series. Or does it have big square grids like this:

If so, that would make it an 801 series. The 861 is one of the model offerings in the 801 series.

Tractor ID should be right above the serial number on the flat spot behind the starter.

I posted a pic of my 641 about a 1/2 page down in the thread "4000 confushion"
