Ford 4000 Diesel Problem

I have a 1974 Ford 4000 diesel. Earlier this year I was bushhogging with it and it started to miss. I have changed the fuel filer twice, both times it has had a lot of crud in it. I have changed injectors and it still misses. It starts good and idles good until it runs for a while and then the miss begins, I have noticed that when it is missing there is very little or no fuel coming from the return line into the fuel tank. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

Me and a friend of mine work on his race car a lot. One time it would idle fine but once you got on it hard it would cut out like it didnt have power. We put a new filter on it, tried a new carberator and it still did it. Turns out there was a hole in the gas line. Problem solved. We unhooked the fuel line up by the carburator and blew air into the line with a air compressor and looked for air leaks. this maybe your problem?? Just thought I would give you my thoughts.

There is a screen on the shutoff valve at the tank outlet. This is probably plugged. Remove the line to the filter head, and check fuel flow out of the tank. If it is just a trickle, clean or replace the fuel shutoff.
