Hello
I finally got started on the brake job on my 71 3000 tractor. But the drums wont came off, have tryed penetrating oil and a propan torch (small one)o yes i have backed off the pads. Should i dig out the big acetylen torch?I have not a puller that would fit the drum.
Thanks !

After I got them off, I would coat the area with anti-seize, and the lugs, so I wouldn't have a repeat problem. Too bad that if someone was there before you they did not do this. Good luck.

Pour some vineagar on the hubs where the lugs etc are and go have a beer/ cup of coffee and go back and they will probably slip off

Well being an old salt beer is some thing that goes hand in hand with tractors. As far as vineagar its one of a few things I keep on hand. Beer, tranny fluid, carb cleaner, gas, oil all types, and a big hammer. All of them you need for these old tractors.

I just finished brakes on my 861,just keep heating around hub area and where the studs come through drum. Heating and taping it will come off. Then the work starts, good luck.

Had the same problem on my '74 2000. The hubs are rusted to the axle, so you first have to put a lot of Blaster in that area as well as the lug stud holes. The I took a big pipe wrench and caught the teeth of the pipe wrench on the lip of the hub on the backside of the hub. Then having someone hold the pipe wrench, started wailing away with a sledge on the wrench, moving the pipe wrench around the hub a little after about 3-4 hits. Don't pound on the hub or you will crack it, and use a torch only as a last resort because there is probably lots of hydraulic oil on the inside of the hub. Persevere and keep on spraying with Blaster in between hits.
