Ford tractor values??

I am a Farmall man but I have the chance to buy a couple Ford tractors. I need some help determining the values of them because they are not priced and I know nothing about them. Both tractors are/have been shedded.

I believe the first tractor is a 8N. I did not see the model anywhere but 8N - C is stamped near the starter. It has decent paint. The tires are pretty good with slight cracks. It has less than 50 hours on a complete engine overhaul. It has been about 6 months since it has ran. I also noticed "N A11 2" stamped near the starter.

The second tractor is a 971 Select O Speed. It has a 900 silver emblem on the front hood. The front tires are good. One of the rear tires is in good shape and the other one is brand new. It has a wide front with power steering. The paint is decent. This tractor has not ran for 5-6 years. The engine is free though. This tractor also has a 2 way hydraulic hook-up.

Could I please get some ideas on the values of these tractors? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Adam

I'll leave the 8N to others for their input.

If you can not run the engine on the 971 you will not be able to check out the S.O.S. transmission. If this transmission is in good shape, it's great. If not, it could take you more than the tractor's worth to fix and most of the parts are no longer serviced by Ford (NH) either.

Now, I just bought a '65 4000 4cyl diesel S.O.S. (next version of 971 but with direct drive clutch transmission). It has the narrow front. I paid $2555 for the tractor. It had had a mounted cornpicker on it all its life and showed 2500.0 hours on a stuck hourmeter. The meter couldn't have been stuck long because none of the tread knobs were worn off brake or inching pedals. I did clean and kit the injection pump, put a filter and cover gasket in the power steering, replaced the tachometer, and will have some money in getting 3 pt and drawbar parts. HTH

You stole it!!!!! !!!!! !!!!! !!!!! !!!!!

My advice Adam is to go up whenever you can if it's the right thing to do. Having worked my way up, later is definitely nicer.

Expect to pay 2x for Fords that you pay for other stuff in the category. Reason is Fergie and Ford put together one heck of a handy utility tractor and the selling/buying public know that.

8N's are hard to price. They usually bring about 1500-2000 on Ebay. But in our local paper that jumps to 2000 to 3000.

I just bought a 971, narrow front with a Ford 701 front end loader for $2800. Power steering was not functioning when I bought it. I used that fact in the negotiations. The seller wanted $3500 when I first saw it. I've seen one on Ebay that looked great with a wide front and a loader that went to $3800 but didn't meet reserve.

If they are not running, they are worth a lot less because you can't check out anything.

I really like my 971. The Select-O-Speed works great and is fun to drive. I have an 8N as well. The 8N is a handy little tractor but doesn't have much traction unless you are using the 3 point. The 8N does not have live power which I really miss when I'm mowing hay.
