Can someone help me translate the Ford part numbers in the manual into generic numbers that I can find locally? The fluids I am changing are:
Tansmission: Ford part number ESN-M2C77-A or M-4864-A. Rear axle/hydraulic system: ESN-M2C53 or M-2C53-B. My tractor is a Ford 4000. Thank you for helping, Bill

Ford NewHolland 134a(or what ever they call their hydro fluid now) in all sections. If you have a 4 cylinder "prior" model you can use gear oil in the trans and in the rearend, but MUST use hydraulic in the pump section.

Joe, I'm not sure I am understanding; the manual shows different fluid for the transmission than what goes in the rear axle/hydraulics.

They used to call for that, but developed one oil now to replace all. Seems the oils ended up mixing anyhow.

You can go to a NH dealer & talk it over, then you know for sure. Bet the current papers say 134a in all - which most trans-hydraulic oil (not _just_ hydraulic oil) meets.

I believe most Ford tranny fliud is now converted to 'Ford 134a' (hope that's right from memory). If you look on the containers at the farm supply store, you'll see this listed.

Not sure on the other fluids.

Paul, Ford came up with 134a so they could keep only one oil at dealers. It is standard hydraulic oil. I was saying that many people chose to put gear oil in the transmission because it was thicker, and tended to slow the gears when shifting, making for easyier shifting
