Just bought a Ford 801 Powermaster. Trying to find out what year it is. The serial # near starter on flat has been eaten away. I know there has got to be another way to find out what year it is. Here is some information on tractor. Any help finding year and model would be apprciated.

engine and frame (red) hood, front & side panels (grey)
4 speed & reverse, power steering, pto, diesel engine.

Side panels read Ford 801 Powermaster
The emblem on front is circle with lightening bolt. Im sure this is not correct because I can see where an extra hole was drilled to mount it

Engine info medal plate reads
INDUSTRIAL ENGINE
4804-S8KC
COPR-6006-6

left side engine near front raised stamped
12H
65

Right side of engine stamped in engine
CONN 6015J

Right side transmission
310835
3 1A3:

Left side transmission
CONN 4024 F

LEFT AXLE NEAR TIRE
NDA
4013C

right axle near tire
NDA
4012C

right axle on trumpet B161

Thats it and thanks for any information.

Well it is a late 1961 or maybe even a very early 1962.
Your date codes are all 1961 between Feb. and Aug. so it was built after Aug of 1961.

The problem I am having with this is I do not think you have a 801. Some key words you used that scream out at me.
INDUSTRIAL ENGINE
engine and frame

So lets do this. Does your tractor look like either of the pictures below.

Ford 801
Ford 1801

Hey John, could be like my 860. I just installed an industrial 172 CI on my tractor. So now there is a tag on engine that says "Ford Industrial". I still have the original engine, Completely rebuilt, saving it for future use.

Well if it looks like the picture of the 801 and has a adjustable front axel then it is a Model 841.

If it has a solid front axle we will have to dig a little more.

I am new in the tractor world. This is my first tractor. Can you explain what I need to look for when you say adjustable front axle. I am at work now but I can look this afternoon and post back.

Thanks

If you have a adjustiable front axle it will be in 3 pieces.
The center piece is hooked to the tractor under the engine. The 2 outer pieces are bolted to the center piece. They have holes so you can adjust it wide or narrow.
If you have a soild axle it will be all one piece from wheel spindle to wheel spindle.
Picture is a adjustiable axle.

Hey John
It has an ajustable front end just like the photo you attached. I am confussed on model. If this is a 841D does that mean it is not a 801 Powermaster or is the 841D a version of the 801 Powermaster.

Thanks

A 841 is a version of a 801.

There are many 801's.
The middle # tells what kind of trans you have and what kind of pto you have.
A 841 would be a 801 with a four speed trans; hyd's and pto

1 Select-O-Speed transmission w/o PTO
2 Four-speed transmission w/o PTO or hydraulics
3 Four-speed transmission w/o PTO
4 Four-speed transmission
5 Five-speed transmission w/transmission PTO
6 Five-speed transmission w/live PTO
7 Select-O-Speed transmission w/single speed PTO
8 Select-O-Speed transmission w/two-speed and ground drive PTO

Thanks John
You have been very helpful.
Now that I know what I have I can get busy fixing her up. The front axle is adjustable so I guess it is a 841D. Thanks for the explanation of the 801 vs 841D. Does the air intake breather screw off the pipe or is it all one piece. Need to replace it but the nut is rusted to the bolt going down in the breather.
Thanks again

I know what you are going through Bro... I also have a 1957-1962? Ford 841D. D= diesal. When I got it, it had a 134 gas. The 134 gas engine does not even come on that tractor. That engine is not even a option on that tractor. The serial numner on mine has alos been eaten away, and it has been a BIG learning experince on trying to figure out what I have and dont have. Some things were, I had 134 gas engine, but I had a Diseal gas tank.. lol. If you want to see my Project from start to here I am now.. Visit

www.indianrivertractor.com (about us page)

Email me some pics. I would love to see what you got. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks, Craig

Lots of parts swapping has occurred on some of these old tractors. The most common thing found is a trans swap, especially if it originally had an SOS tranny. The problem with that is you inherit the model and serial number from the donor tractor since both numbers are stamped on the trans housing.

In your case it sounds more like an engine swap since the 172 and 134 engines are straight bolt in swaps. I assume you have the 801 grille. Is your diesel fuel tank the large size (801/901) or the smaller (601/701) one? The 801/901 fuel tank was I think 17 gal capacity whereas the smaller tank is only 11 gal.

Yes, I have the 17 Gal. Fuel tank. My Dad has a Ford 860. He has the smaller tank. With some good ole home made frabication, we made it work with the engine

B161 on the axle trumpet is a date code. That axle trumpet was cast on Feb 16, 1961. B=Feb 16=16th and 1=1961.

You might also find a date code on top of the radiator. Was there not a similar date code on the other axle?

The other axle trumpet has same number B161.
I remember seeing on the top of the radiator some number with a 61 on it.

Thanks for your information.

Having the same date code on both axles is rare. I've never seen it before. It's a kind of a "luck of the draw" type of thing. My trumpets have date codes 3 days apart.

Hey Jim
Actually one of the numbers is hard to make out. I was just guessing it was same on both axles.
So you are probally right, they are probally different. I will clean it up some and check.

Thanks for the info
