I've been tinkering with my 860. I fabricated a manifold and installed a downdraft carb from a
144 CI Ford Falcon. No modifications were made to
alter the tractor other than this upgrade. The results are promising. The tractor is easier to start, throttle response is instantaneous and fuel economy is improved!! Fuel costs prompted this experiment. I gained an extra 1.5 hrs. of run time per tank! Modification cost is minimal since I had all the stuff for the modification
except having pipe bent for the manifold. Necessity truly is the mother of invention! In other words I'm CHEAP..

Didn't you have to convert to 12 volts in order to use that automotive carburetor? ;)

P.S. I would like to see photos of your conversion. It sounds interesting. Are you considering developing a conversion kit for sale to others?

12V has nothing to do with the induction system.
The carb is manual choke but I see no need to hook it up since all you have to do is is burp the throttle a couple of times the provide a pump shot from the carb accelerator pump. I will
consider a kit if enough interest is generated. However 1960's carbs are hard to find (and pricey). I'm only providing this information at this time to let you all know it can be done. I won't provide pictures since this may become information I choose to guard (as Zane does) Let
me know what you all think!!
