Jubilee/NAA PTO and draft control

Still on the learning curve with my Jubilee. Just had the starter rebuilt to replace the brushes, and in removing it found the Bendix pretty worn out, so it was a good time to replace that as well. Starts quickly, now.

On the subject question, my PTO engagement lever is pretty stiff trying to get it either in or out of gear. It seems to work fine, but takes a deliberate act to get it engaged, unlike the quick flick I was used to on the Farmall. Is this normal or indicate a problem?

Secondly, the 3-pt seems to work fine when selected for position control, although it slowly drifts down with a finish mower attached and bumps itself back up if the engine is running. When I select draft control, it just comes down. Is that normal? I also have an auxiliary hydraulic control working a front-mounted cylinder that operates smoothly and holds a mounted blade up in position with no drifting down.

Thanks for the help. This has been a great group to get information from.

The pto lever should move freely so you may have a slight problem. What you are doing when you move the lever is sliding a coupling on the grooved pto shaft. These tractors are know for twisting the shaft when put into a hard bind so yours may have a very slight twist.
As long as it is working and not jumping out of gear I would leave it alone.

Draft control is for plowing and it is suppose to let the plow fall. While we could go into a lengthy discussion on how it works I will just cut this off here and say..... . If you do not have a plow leave it in position control 24/7.

Since your front cylinder holds with no leakage I would say that your 3 point hiccup is coming from worn o-rings on the piston for the 3 point. If you ever get tired of the hiccupping you could remove the hydraulic cover and rebuild it.
