I just bought what the previous owner thinks is a 1965 Ford loader backhoe.
What are some tell tale signs that I might gain a clue as to what year and model the machine is if I can"t find a serial number?

Where do I upload pictures?

I think you can post the pictures under one of the tractor photo sections to the left, or put them up on your own web site and link them to this fourm. I haven't done this, so I can't be of much help on the technical end.... Now, the number you posted is a Ford serial number. If you look a little more where you found that one, there should be a couple more. One will be a model number, and the other will be the unit code, which identifies the build date. I'm not familiar with decoding industrial model numbers, but somebody on here will likely know. HTH.

Thanks for the feedback.

I"ll check for that number on the flat spot behind the starter.

There is a power steering pump on the left side of the motor with an integral reservoir. There is a leak somewhere though, because it sure doesn"t hold any fluid for more than a day or so.

I"ll get some digital pictures as soon as I can.

Thanks again!!!!

Look to the rear of the starter. There will be a machined flat spot with the production numbers. They will be stamped into the casting. There should also be an information plate under the hood (post '65), if it hasn't fallen off over the years. A photo would also be nice, but the numbers should do it. Try that out and post back.

Assuming that it has power steering, is the power steering reservoir mounted on the pump(left side of engine) or mounted remote above the engine? Does it have a power steering cylinder parallel to the drag link or is the powersteering integral to the steering box?

Give us several digital photos of your machine. Someone can identify it. Let one of the photos be of one side of the front axle, taken from above. ~~HB~~ in NC
