I've got an old Ford Workmaster with a problem carb. It seeps fuel out of the carb air intake, and the idle air adjust needle does absolutely nothing.

-I've rebuilt the carb twice.
-Used two different needle and seat assemblies.
-Two different floats.
-Adjusted the floats up and down.
-Cleaned carb with solvent twice.
-Boiled for 15 min.
-Dipped in acid.

Same results, fuel seepage and idle air adjustment does nothing.

Any help will be appreciated.

601 Man, First, if you have a reql dirty gas tank, you need to clean it up first. I like to install a 1/8" brass radiator drain cock in the bottom of the carb in place of the drain plug. You can then drain some gas into a clear glass container and check whats in the carb bowl. Second, is needle seat threads leaking? I prefer to use some sealer around the threads when installing the needle seat and crank down hard with the screwdriver. Third, get that radiator drain cock with a sleeve that you can slide a clear plastic hose over or buy a hose barb fitting with a 1/8" N.P.T. X 1/4" hose barb. Using a section of clear plastic hose, hold the clear plastic hose up beside the carb and check the bowl fuel height. Should be about 1/4" below the center bowl gasket, bet its not. Good luck....Kelly.

First, if gas is leaking out of the carb and you have a new needle and seat and the float is adjusted according to instructions, I'd be checking the body of the carb where the seat screws in. I had a similar problem on two tractors. And both of them had a deep scratch on the surface that the gasket for the seat goes on. Gas always leaked out the scratch because a seat gasket is fairly hard.

If your idle circuit isn't working, it most likely is clogged up. Washing the carb generally won't solve this. You have to use a small wire to go into all those channels and get them open. This is a tough job because occassionally the channel is made by drilling from two different directions and having the cannel be the merger of the two drills. so a wire won't go straight through. All those little holes have got to be clean. Soaking it overnight in carb cleaner might help loosen it up.
