Hello. I went to look at a 1700 (might be a 1710. I can't remember) Ford today and wanted to see if anyone knew anything about these tractors. The serial # is U706769 with engine # LE892 43742 and it had 855 hours. It has a 770 front end loaded with bucket and forks, 5 foot rotary mower, landscaping rake and 6 foot, 3 point blade. The front tires and wheels are good and the rear tires and wheels are new. It doesn't appear to have any leaks and seems to be in good mechanical condition. The sheetmetal is in good condition. Do you know if this has an indepentend PTO? Are they dependable? Is it worth $4500?

Thanks.

I would pass this one by at that price for a 2-wheel drive. Why have the rear tires been replaced at only 800 hours? On a small utility boomer type tractor, I like to see 4-wheel, live PTO, and 3 cylinders. You can do better.

I wondered about the tires also. After I got there, I saw the orignals. They had rusted through so the guy put new wheels and Ag tires instead of the turf tires.

There is a difference beteen 1700 and 1710., 1700 is a 2 cylinder, while the 1710 is a 3 cylinder, much smoother. But for either one that price sounds quite reasonable for a compact diesel. Neither one has live PTO, you will need to use an overide clutch for brush hogging. Dave

1710 has optional live PTO, most in this area have it. Not sure about the 1700.

The 1720 has a live pto, so not so sure on the 1700????? They have a weaker hyd sys than the 1720. Good little tractor from what I hear tho. Great price if it is 4wd & the extras included. If the front axle fails on you, hard to get parts from what I hear.

Don't let the fact that its not 4wheel drive steer you away. I had a Ford 1600 2 wheel drive with a 770 loader and I moved tons of stuff. You just need to take your time ,plus you don't have to worry about breaking those expensive front end parts! Dave1
