I just bought a '66 model 4000 (3 cyl gas) rowcrop and am going to restore it. The fuel filter housing right out of the tank is gummed up so bad it only lets a trickle of fuel through. I was wondering if there is any solvent to loosen this stuff up. Also, is this an indication that the rest of the fuel system may have similar characteristics such as the fuel pump and carburator. I've never seen gas gel up like that. I am also wondering if the gas is gravity fed to the pump and then pumped to the carb, or is is sucked to the pump by the pump itself? Any help on this fuel system is appreciated. Thanks, Bob

Ask "old". Seems he is a vinegar fan and he says that a good vinegar soak will solve varnish problems in fuel tanks and related systems.

Otherwise Berryman's Chem Tool is an excellent solvent for fuel related problems; in spray or a can for dipping/soaking.
