Thanks guys, I know you would come through for me.
Yes, I had to cut the old can off the oil filter with a metal cutting blade on my sawsall . What a messsss , but it is off and replace with a spin-on canaster system, and boy is it easier to replace the oil filter. Now my baby can proper oil serviceing she needs. Thanks again AJ in Va.

If you are still having some clearance problems with the spin on, there is a short version of the ford spin on filter. It was very popular on Chrysler products ('60's and '70's) with tight frame clearance.

Wix numbers

Standard "Ford" oil filter, to replace PH8A, FL1A, etc is Wix 51515 and is 5 inches tall.

Extra short filter is Wix number 51068 and is 4.3 inches tall.

Extra tall "two quart" filter is Wix number 51773 and is 7 inches tall

I worked in a Ford garage in the 50s when the spin on conversion first came out.Put one on a 54 v8.Couldnt see any sense to it as the car owner had his oil changed and these filters were easy to change once you knew how.Checked for leaks, found none.Car came back in 2weeks with an oil leak.I put the car on the lift with the engine running, found a spray of oil coming from the corner area of the new filter. It had been hit by a stone and started leaking.I would not put one on my tractor.Cant understand why you had to cut the old filter housing off. I always loosen the bolt a few turns then tap the housing with a soft hammer. The gasket always sticks to the block.

The reason putting a spin-on oil filter is because I did not have the room to remove the old can tpye filter. I could not screw off the old can to change the filter, because the loader brace is to close to the canaster to get it off.
