Here's the senerio. On my 62 4000 172 ci gas engine.Rear main seal was leaking, pulled pan and rear main bearing cap, noticed bearings were in bad shape.Replace seal with neoprene type, replaced all the bearings (rods and mains)now i hardly have any oil press.20psi before had 40 psi.My question is will these bearings run in or is it time for a new crankshaft??

Do you still have the old bearing liners? If so ,look on the back side for signs of an under sized liners, like .001 or .002 These were available years back If they are marked .010 or more I think you would hear the engine make some knocking noises As stated before, if the old liners are not marked better use some plastiguage to see how much bearing clearence you do have, .0015 to .003 recommended HTH

Give us some more details on exactly how you replaced the main and rod bearings. Did you mic the crank, grind the crank, new pistons, rings, etc. Tell us exactly what you did. Do you have, and did you use Repair Manual?

Well since most of your oil pressure is lost through bad bearings/crank I would say it is time for a crank grinding and some over size bearings.
Did you even check to be sure it did not have over sized bearings before and you replaced with standard size.

So how do we check this????? ????? ?????
Take the pan back off and get some plastigage from the parts store. Remove the bearing cap and install with the plastigage. Remove cap and measure plastigage to see what your clearance is.

Your shop manual should have this procedure spelled out in detail.

The old bearings were .010 oversized and that's what i replaced them with.
