8n carb

having more problems with my 8n. New manifold, plugs ,points and coil and a rebuilt carb. Ran fine bushogging for 2 hours. Next day after 1 hour of bushhogging it started running rough. Made it to the barn (barely), shut it off with a big backfire. Can't get it started again.
With the air intake removed, the carb constantly drips gas as long as the gas shutoff is left open. Also, when I try to start it gas pours out of the carb. Isn't this an indication of a stuck float? and if so could this also be the reason for not starting?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

thanks for your help OLD and ERICLB. picked up a different carb today and will try it tomorrow.one of the problems I'm having locally is with the guy I'm dealing with for parts. Doesn't seem to be the sharpest tool in the shed nor the most honest but talks a good game. I've gotten the best info from the YTFORUM. When I get this all resolved I'll be very happy and I definately appreciate all that you folks have done for me.
Bob

Yep stuck float/needle valve, I try the good old tapping on the carb trick, also you might pull the drain plug out of the bottom of the carb, that might flush out some junk the is in the needle seat keeping it from closeing as it should

hi bob, if gas is pouring out of the carb, it should be either a stuck needle and seat, or the float has "sunk" or the level is not adjusted correctly, it could also prevent the engine from starting as it would definatly be flooded,
