Tractor starts right up but after about 5-10 minutes dies. Fuel bowl is dry. The bowl then will fill up if I take off line (sometimes but not always) then will run awhile and do the same.
when the tractor dies the gas tank bubbles like blowing air threw a straw in H2O. I have cleaned all the screens, filters etc. Maybe a loose connection? but no leaking gas Any ideas??

Hi Susan , It sounds like you might be getting vapor locked , the gasoline is actually boiling in the fuel line , those are the bubbles you are seeing in the fuel tank . The original fuel line from Ford came straight down from the fuel valve under the tank between the Intake and Exhaust manifold to the Carb, completely vertical . If you have any horizontial fuel line on the tractor it will not be original and will be the most likely problem to check first . The system is gravity feed from the fuel tank to the carb. Thanks Tony Jacobs

I agree that the most probable cause is blockage some place in the fuel system, possibly the finger screen in the fuel tank at the fuel tank outlet. If it's a '65/ 3-cylinder 4000, there's a fuel pump mounted on the left top of the timing gear cover. It may have failed and be doing more harm than good. It should produce two to four pounds per square inch of pressure, just like an older automotive fuel pump. Here's something else to check, the fuel pump is driven with an eccentric cam held on the front of the camshaft with the camgear retaining bolt. If this bolt has loosened, the eccentric may not rotate and the pump won't pump. Remove the two nuts on the pump mounting flange, lift it a quarter inch, crank the engine and see if the prushrod is stroking.
