My neighbor just bought a 72' 2000 with new paint, decals, battery, and only 800 original hours "yes the tach works" for $4000. It runs great and I just used it to mow my yard. My question is, what is the RPM needed to achieve and maintian 540 on the PTO? I was running it around 2000 and it sounded like it was idiling, but when it hit a thick spot the governor cracked open and worked just liked it was supposed to. It seemed to cut good at that speed, but I just wanted to know where it actually is. Thanks Bill {Antique Acres}

If you look at the cowl just under the steering wheel, there should be a sticker which lists speeds in each gear and the engine RPM. At the bottom it lists the engine RPM for 540 PTO. For my '71 2000 diesel it is 1800 RPM. The 2000 is a GREAT machine! For $4000 your neighbor got a good deal.

Have fun...

When they repianted it that was one sticker they left off. I used to farm with a 3000 a lot and it had one. Thanks Bill {Antique Acres}

According to the Operator's Manual, the 2000 is the same as my 3000: 1800 RPM with live PTO; 1600 with 8 speed w/out live PTO.
