Is the voltage stabilizer a must for the system to charge, or just there for the gauges, and is there a way i can check to see if the generator regulator is working?

Also, do I need to polarize the regulator?

aaron p, Glad you solved your problem so quickly. Please respond and tell us what your problem was and what you did to solve it so it will be in the archives for anyone with future problems like it. I also had a problem with my 3000 Diesel not charging. My auto electric man said my generator was shot and I purchased a new one along with a new regulator. I polerized it and still had the problem. After weeks of pulling my hair out going through the whole wiring harness rechecking all of the connections retesting everything I finely came to the conclusion the voltage regulator I replaced had to be bad, After getting another one everything worked fine. Sometimes the smallest little thing can cause us to go nuts trying to troubleshoot so If you would let us know what you found and maybe help the next guy save some aggrevation. Thanks. Mike

I also went through all the aggrevation. I replaced the regulator, generator and finally just went through the harness which was shot in the first place. I guess I worked backwards on this one. I did find the archives very helpful with testing the generator, which is working fine. Sometimes its the simplest things that we put off checking, that causes us the greatest expense in the long run.
