I have to replace the return line that
goes from the injection pump directly to the bottom of the tank...

Do I have to drain the tank completely so the fuel does not come out of the return line or is there a check valve or something preventing the fuel from coming out of the tank as opposed to going into the tank....

If the fuel does come out of the return line then I guess that I can use te return line to drain the tank ???

Since the tank looks pretty full , if I need to drain it conpletely I want to make sure I have enough containers....

Thanks.....Alan

2 lines go to the tank from early diesel supply systems. There is a pipe to the pump which is connected to the bottom of the tank and an injector excess fuel return line which is on a standpipe. Both connect to one tank adapter.

The excess fuel line could be done as you wish. The line to the pump no.
