Can anyone help me understand what is going on with my tractor? After dragging my landscape rack for 15-20 minutes the tractor just quits and will not restart unless I pull out the choke. Then it is okay for another 5-10 minutes and does it again. Anyone got a clue? Could it be the gas line filter?

It actually sounds like a gas line obstruction to me. The rate of fuel flow to the carb is slightly less than the rate of useage. When the car bowl is empty, it starves. Once turned off, the fuel flow catches up while trying to restart. I'd make sure of fuel flow first. It could be your filter or it could be junk in the tank or lines or settling bowl.

Not run into vapor lock but heard of the condition plenty. Just never seen it. The gas lines are running plenty close to the exhaust on my 901 and hasn't caused a problem. Probably just lucky.

It could also be a bad vent in the gas cap. When the tractor quits, remove the cap, and then restart, and see if the problem still exists. If it doesn't, buy a new gas cap. I've dealt with this on other models, and it's not exactly the same as the elusive vapor lock, just no fuel moving. More like vacuum lock. Cheap and worth a try.

Hi Bob,
When the problem, you describe, happens to a Ford gas tractor in hot weather, the problem can usually be traced to vapor lock (gas boiling in the fuel line). Several methods of overcoming this problem, have been suggested, on this discussion forum. Search the archives.
