While bushhogging the lift will drop the hog all the way down from time to time. With the hog lifted and engine off it will stay up for 30 min.. Can't see what problem might be as I can on my 8n because no access cover to see cylinder. How much skill is required to go in and fix problem so I can decide shop or fix myself. Have manuals and have done basic work, carb rebuild, etc.. Thanks

The hog should never be supported to
the height by the hydraulics of the 3 point.
This will put extreme pressure on the pump
when the tractor hits bumps and may cause
damage to the seals.
Always use the limiters chains or bars to set the minimum hog height when the hydraulics are all the way down (that is why they are there).
yOU will be able to lift the hog above this
level should the need arise.

I don't agree with your blanket statement of 'never use the lift to support an object'.

That's so general that it just can't apply to every situation.

It's common practice to not use limit chains on mowers, and have the 3pt mower pivot on the lower arms, and ride on the rear wheel. In this setup, the toplink should have some play.. Due to this gemoetry, the entire weight o fthe mower is not supported onthe 3pt arms.. but it is also spread to the mowers rear wheel.. Think of a wheel barrow with 200# in the bucket. You grab the 2 arms on the wheel barrow and go.. you are not supporting the full 200# on your arms alone... the wheel is supporting a portion of the load.

It sounds like you need to rebuild the lift cover. It's not a terrible job but the lift cover is very heavy on a 3000. You'll need help getting it off and back on. Don't attempt a rebuild without a manual to help you work through it.
