I have a Ford 3400. I have replaced fuel lift pump and fuel filters. I can get fuel to bleed from fuel injector pump at bleed screw but cannot get fuel up to injectors. Is there a possible problem with my injector pump? What do I do? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Assuming yours is an in-line injector pump, if loosening injector pipes as per txgrn's post doesn't produce fuel flow when cranking, then either you haven't bled pump properly or the rack in the pump is stuck (only applies if tractor's been left standing for ages). If the latter, undo side plate and free up rack using WD40 or similar. Excess fuel button will speed up fuel flow out of pump = less stress on starter.

Takes a little while to get fuel up there. If you have a lift pump, you have a Simms inline pump which has an excess fuel button on the side of it. The dist Ford uses later on is the CAV pump.

The Simms feeds the 3 cylinders with 3 separate valve assy whereas the dist uses the same feed and just rotates it to the desired hole. So a Simms could have a problem where it wouldn't feed a certain cylinder whereas the dist would just stop pumping.

Might crack the lines at the pump outlet first just to see that the pump is pumping. If you do and cranked for a period of time and still have no fuel then I'd say something is astray.

But if it was running and all you did is what you said you did your pump should be ok. Just get the air out.

If you cracked at the pump and got fuel, then close and crack at an injector (all injectors) and crank baby crank....but allow time for your starter to cool off or you'll be buying one of them too.

Good luck,

Mark

You can't get fuel up to injectors with lift pump. Engine has to turn to do that. Is your inj. pump in-line or rotary? Rotaries are notorious for recirculating air. Once all air is expelled from inj. pump by using lift pump, find which inj. pipe is highest on inj. pump, slacken this one at injector end and turn engine until fuel flows from it. In-lines are generally less trouble but, if all air is out of pump and it still won't start, slacken a couple of injector pipes and spin engine till fuel flows. Make sure throttle stop is not out and give it full throttle - use excess fuel button if fitted.
