Finally got the chance to work this fine tractor hard for a day. Not surprising for a tractor that's 25 years old, a few problems showed their faces. We discovered this one when I turned the steering wheel and the right front wheel did what it was supposed to and the left one kind of lagged behind. Problem appears to be the key (or lack of, see arrow on photo.) Once again this removal is a first time operation for me. Are there any tricks, pitfalls, items to be aware of that I should know about before I loosen that nut and remove the assembly?

Expect the spindle, axle, wheel and all to fall out the bottom when you remove the steering arm.

So if all you are doing is replacing the Woodruf Key, then leave her sitting on the ground.

I believe you"ll find that the nut and bolt have to be removed from the arm before it can be pulled off. Also, if I remember correctly, early spindles with only one key/keyway were more likely to have that problem but the updated spindles with two keys/keyways were much better.
