update from my previous message -http://www.ytmag.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=ford&th=359406

I removed the injector from #1 cyl..I hard a heck of a time getting it out. That was part of my problem. I removed the two nuts (one of the studs came out) and removed the "leak off" line securing nut. Still no luck. I think I then screwed up!!! I removed the cap nut on top.. the one that has the adjustment screw underneath. I then removed this screw and there was a spring, plunger and a cap on top of the spring. After a lot of work I finally got the injector out. It appears that there was a carbon buildup holding it in.
I then read my manual and it appears that this adjustment screw is where you set the opening pressure. What do I do now - I feel so stupid, I should have read the manual before taking a chance on removing it. Can this be set in the field?? I am not sure this is the source of my leak.. the injector sealing washer was there but it did have a couple of carbon spots on it where it might not have been sealing??? I will just have to see. Can you help?? Also is there a trick to getting these things off - or just be patient and work back and forth until it comes up??

Take the injector to a diesel injector pump service and let them test and set it. You can rotate the injector back and forth when trying to remove it. After it frees up some you can take a couple of bearing pry bars and pry on each ear at the same time to pull the injector out. If there was a lot of carbon in the cavity then I suspect you had some compression leak there. The injector repair place should have some sealing washers for the injector also

It worked - you guys are good!!! in reply to Hurley J. D., 08-15-2005 18:04:02
I took my injector to the NH dealer and he adjusted it for no charge...got new copper seals and over-flow tubing, re-installed the injectors and walla - no more compression noise!!! The tractor sounds better than it ever has...tight with very little noise.
Thanks again - J.D. and Mark....you guys are GREAT!!

Now that you know what your are doing, if I were you I would pull the other injectors and have them checked and adjusted if necessary.
