Help, I need to know where I can get a stock battery hold down, box, or whatever came on my 61 841D. I know the rubber strap ain"t original equipment. The battery keeps trying to crawl out while I"m working.

I tried to buy the holdown for the 12 volt battery and could not find one. I ended up making one from angle iron. 1.0 X1.0 in a light guage is okay. I turned placed two angles long way on the longest part of the battery. These are cut a little longer than the battery. They nest on the front and back corners of the battery. The two short angles on each end of the battery are welded to the long angles. They do not nest on the battery. They are placed with one leg sticking out to make a flange. I made the flanged part to fit on the lower end of the long angles. Drill a hole in the flange and get you two j-bolts. Does this make sense proable not but maybe you can get the idea and go with it.

I have a homemade one that's about to become surplus because I bought a new one from Kelly Jewell. The one I could send you was welded up by a previous owner out of angle iron. He didn't do a bad job either.

Email me if you're interested and I'll take it off and take a picture of it. I assume you're still using a 6 volt battery. If you've converted to 12 volt this one won't fit.

Or you could contact Kelly and see if he has another new one.

841D should be a diesel.

 Oops, you're right... in reply to Hurley J. D., 09-05-2005 20:32:25
I didn't read that very carefully. An 841D should have a 12 volt battery.
