My tractor seems it will idle all day, but sputters and quits when its in gear after its warm (1-2 min). I removed the sed bowl and fuel filter to main line gas right to the carb but it doesn't solve the problem.
I'd be greatful for any help.

Thanks

Have you pulled the drain plug at the bottom of the carb to make sure you get a good flow of gas?? Does choking it help??

Seems like good flow.
Choking helps a little.
What might this mean?
thanks bob

My guess would be either a plugged carb and or a leak in one of the mainfold gaskets, or a cracked manifold. If you pull the air intake tube off and put your hand over the carb opening do you get a good vacuum when you turn the engine over. It should also most suck your hand in, also if you do that you should have gas on your hand after you do it. If you don't have both happen you have one of those probelms

IF in fact your tractor will idle all day, then we can assume it's not electrical (as it could be if this problem only happened when it was warmed up). I agree with old, pull the choke, see if that helps. Assumning you have a good fuel flow, and the float is not sticking, you probably have an air leak somewhere in the intake system. It sounds like when you pull the throttle, you are adding more air and coupled with the air leak, the engine can't handle it, and it dies.

Doesn"t seem to be elec as I"ve replaced all but the regulator.
Choke helps but only for a few seconds.
How could I tell if float sticks?
Where could an air intake leak be from?
thanks, bob

Bob..... ..airleaks are eaziest found by "squirting" WD-40 with a straw at ALL carburator and manifold gasket joints. The WD-40 will "seal" enny airleaks and won't hurt yer engine to be sucked in 'cuz its "oil". But I really don't think airleaks are your problem 'cuz you say "chokin" is just a momentary "fix". Choking enriches yer mixture, makes it eazier for weak sparkies to ignite it. But I don't think weak sparkies is yer problem 'cuz you claim eazy starting.

Your complaint as I understand it, it won't take a load after warm-up and stalls out. There are 2-rpm related issues that could cause yer described problem. Governor won't take up the load ...or... distributor centrifical advance is NOT advancing.

Governor is eazy to check. With engine running, hand-jazz (it won't hurt you) yer governor to carburator throttle shaft. Does it fight you? Yes? governor's probably good. No? might be yer problem.

Distributor centrifical advance is more difficult to check. ...but... check yer points hold-down screw lenght. Too long a screw will catch yer centrifical weights under yer points plate and prevent yer centrifical advance from advancing and cause weak engine power and stalling. The points and condenser hold-down screw is a SHORT #8-32x3/16" screw. It can also have invisable wear and allow yer point to slip closed and cause weak sparkies. p/n 355047-S7 and is also available at yer local Ford automobile dealers parts counter..... ....Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister
