Aviram,

If you glance over to the left on this page you will see, under Marketplace, a link for Tractor Manuals. Click on this link and you will find what you are looking for.

Aviram: owner's manuals for the 601 series are available as reprints from a number of locations (most tractor parts supply houses, ebay, this site, etc). Price is usually $10-$12. Original manuals may cost more depending on condition. Be aware that the owners manual was issued in several editions. The form number for the first version is SE6085-C. Subsequent editions have the same form number with a different letter on the end (SE6085-D, SE6085-E, SE6085-F, SE6085-G). This can make a difference because the -C version covers 4 and 5 speed models (models 621, 631, 641, 651, 661). The next 3 editions do NOT cover 5 speed models, but instead cover 4 speed and Selec-O-Speed models (621, 631, 641, 671, 681). The final edition, SE6085-G covers all models. So if you have a 671 or 681, don't bother buying a reprint SE6085-C owners manual. And if you have a 651 or 661 don't get a SE6085-D, -E, or -F manual.
The owners manual looks like this:
third party image
The owners manual is full of good information, but does not have a wiring diagram. For that I recommend a factor shop manual. I find it to have much more info than the I&T FO-20 manual. These are also available as reprints from the same sources as the owners manual. Price is usually $18 - $25. It looks like this:

As for the model tractor you actually have, it doesn't make a difference on the wiring. But you may want to know for future parts needs. Just quickly, a 621, 631 and 641 will have a 4 speed trans. A 651 and 661 will have a 5 speed trans and a 671 and 681 will have the Select-O-Speed transmission. Other differences between the various models are itemized in the owner's manual or at this link.
As for a wiring diagram, here's one you can use, but it's not 100% correct for your tractor since you probably have a 4 terminal starter solenoid and this diagram is for the earlier tractors with a 3 terminal solenoid. Still, it's a start for you.

Aviram,

This diagram will probably work but be on the lookout if somebody replaced the generator with an alternator and be aware that this diagram dosn't show the maifold heaters circuit. You should find the heater switch, an extra relay and the heaters themselves. The wiring for this circuit might be OK and you might not need to replace it.

Ah, diesel! Well yes that makes a difference, too. Good luck finding the applicable owner's manual. For some reason only two editions of the diesel manual were ever issued and neither one has ever been reprinted to my knowledge. If I remember right, the form numbers on those were SE6970 and SE6970-A. I think the -A manual covers only 4 speed and SOS models. Sometimes you can find on on ebay but they usually go for $20-$40 bucks. Also, occasionally you will find a diesel supplement that can accompany a gas owner's manual to cover all the info you need.

Good info jim. That's what I was hedging around about.. what model he had... tranny is going to be model specific.. and as you point out,.. which model you have will dictate what manual you want.

I'm not sure why larry was giving me such a hard time about trying to 'flush' out the model number...??? ( secret? )

Avrian , look on the left side (if you're sitting on the seat ) down by where the starter goes into the front of transmission . Now on top of that area there's a flat area under the aircleaner . You should have some stamped numbers in that area . Carefully take sandpaper by hand & bare the metal in that area . If you use a grinder you may take the numbers off . That'll give you the serial numbers of your tractor . Then post that here so someone can tell you the year . But the FO20 manual put out by IT manuals will help you in alot of situations . Good luck , Ken

Soundguy . . . where in thunder are you going with all this? What difference does it make what model he's got for his electrical problem, It'd make a bigger difference if you asked whther it's gas or diesel. Besides which if you really want to know his specific model number . . . for Pete's sake, give him some solid info on how to find it instead of spouting all this mumbo jumbo.

Aviram, I'd apologize for Soundguy but I think he ought to apologize for himself.

If you want to find out more about your tractor, here's a site that may help. I don't think it has quite an accurate electrical diagram for the 601, but it will come close. Also the service manuals etc pop up frequently on ebay. The SE 8175 is the shop manual for this tractor. It will be for the 6,7,8,900 series and some others as well as the 01s. You can also get this through the New Holland website or your New Holland dealer. Some guys like the IT manuals too. Perhaps they'll give you numbers for them. I choose genuine Ford. God bless and good luck!

Who are you to correct or question me?!? I'm not in the military so you are not a superior officer.. and you are not a parent or wife...

I was asking what model he had because I was INTERESTED in knowing. I have a 600 series tractor and like to talk to other people with similar tractors?? That a good enough reason for you?.. Is my post ok? you giving it the green light? Do I need to check with the list owner to see if they have approved of your 'ok' on my post now?????

He's got all the solid info he needs. He knows it's a ford hundred series.. the sn and model number are stamped into the cast boss.. that's that. If he doesn't know... he needs to... depending on what model he has out of that series, there are different parts to buy come maintenance or repair time. As for the electrical systems.. These are about the easiest to wire tractors ( N thru hundred series ) that I have ever seen. Genberally not more than 3 or 4 circuits.. Ignition, starter, charging, and lamps...

Besides... wire harness is still available for cnh.. cut to fit... no brain surgery required...

So, You were seeking your own interest? Weren't you supposed to be trying to help? I didn't see anything in your replies that would help a novice find a model number! To those of us who think we know a little about these tractors some of it may have made sense, but it's obvious that besides not connecting at all with Aviram you were being very rude. I personally do not believe there's a place for that on this board. This is my opinion . . . so I quess you can take or leave it!

I looked back over my first 3 messages, 3 times. I seem absolutely nothing in there that is inflamitory. His first posts states he has a 601 series tractor and has a bad electrical system, and wants a manual. My post asks what model out of the 601 series he has, and them tells him about the FO-20 manual.. ( that answers his question as to what manual to get).. seems fair enough to me?

Anyway.. his reply is a year he is guessing at.

My reply pointed out that that was a year, and that I was interested in the model number.
At that point I didn't realize he didn't know where to look.. just thought he misunderstood my question.
His reply was info from the hood decal, I think...

My reply, now realizing that he does not know how to figure year or where to look for sn/model number, I tell him to look on the casring for a stamped number.

As for inflamitory posts.. looks like to me.. yours was the first one.. jumping on my back for having a piecefull conversation with the fellow... Guess my messages didn't meet your quality standards huh? My first post did tell him what manual to get.. and a few places to find it.. I'm not seeing why you are jumping onme so heavilly?

And yes.. this is suposed to be a nice forum.. In that interest.. I'll no longer reply to you ( or others), about this issue ( inflamitory posts, not the original message ), in this thread.

Again.. I was making good honest talk. I think you have jumped the gun a little and not given me the benefit of the doubt. I think there is no place for the kind of post that you initiated, IMHO

Thank you all guys!!!
I think that I found my model on the exhaust pipe
its says:
"INLET 3-62
310660"
adn under the engine its says:
"CONN 601 5H"

So I think that my model is 660 right?

On your tranny, on the left side of the tractor, right above the starter.. there will be a flat boss.. might be tapped with 2 big threaded holes on the verticle plane cafing out. On the 'top' horizontal plane will be the SN.. under that will be the 3 digit model number.

Mine is listed as

* 59705 * 660

Where the * is a diamond.

At this point, I think Larry made the whole thread up just to get your goat! :) Keep up the good work here & t-bynet.

Probably best to know what model tractor one has before ordering manuals or parts....

As to getting manuals, this site is set up to sell stuff, and in the upper left of most pages there is a 'manuals' link to click on. Might as well check there.

Sorry. At first i didn't know that you didn't know the location. That basic location has been used since late 53 back from the NAA models, though the casting boss has changed a bit.

A 661.. Nice.. good tractor.. has dual stage clutch and live pto.

The I&T FO20 manual I mentioned will cover that.. however I would also get possibly the owners manual, as was pictured, and possibly the Master parts catalog for the NAA-hundred series. Good exploded digrams to help you visualize hidden parts.. etc.

601 is the series... just tells you it was made like 57-62.. or 58-62 as opposed to the 600 series.. 55-67/8 etc.

Look by the sn.. should be stamped in the model number... 641 651 661 etc..

Middle digit will show tranny and pto type 6X1

An edit to my other post.. info is stamped on the LEFT side boss.. not right.. got my hands mixed up there.
