Bob, I concur, a manual will be helpful but here's the scoop:

Gear shift cable:
- Be sure trans is in "park"
- Remove philips head screws securing quadrant. - Unscrew fitting at lower end of cable conduit.
- Rotate shifter towards tenth gear while sliding conduit upwards. Be careful not to shift the transmission out of park. A splice in the shift cable will be exposed. Measure and record distance from top of fitting to the notch in the cable splice. Unscrew the cable out of the transmission (left hand thread). - When reinstalling, reinsert the cable into the transmission to the same measured distance, connect the splice and lower the conduit and quadrant till the conduit can be reconnected. With the transmission in park the factory setting is 2 3/4" from top of fitting to the notch in the shifter cable. - When the conduit is slid all the way down to the fitting the quadrant should rotate back to the "park" indicated position. If not, screw the lower cable in or out as necessary.

PTO cable: - Unscrew fittings at both ends of conduit. - Loosen nut that holds PTO Tee handle slider.
- Unscrew PTO Tee handle and cable out of transmission. (left hand thread).
- When reinstalling, pull tee handle all the way out.
- Screw Tee handle and cable back into the transmission till Tee handle just begins to slide into the slider. Unscrew it back it out till Tee handle can be pulled all the way out; tighten nut on slider, tighten conduit fittings.

Additional suggestions:
- Check metal rockers that depress PTO and feathering spools. They should not be twisted, both legs of each rocker should be in plane. - Adjust safety start switch, rotate shifter cam out of park with 5/8" wrench, adjust switch close to cam. Test switch operation with ohmmeter or test light. Return it to the park position (switch plunger depressed) for reassembly.

Bab,

I second what Bill has said. GET a manual!!! AND I mean THE Ford Service Manual. The I&T is OK, and you might want to have it just in case it provides the necessary information more readable. BUT, I'd go with the Ford manual myself.
F/NH has them, part # 40200050, and that is still a good part number - I checked just last month.

I have the service manual and a 2110 with SOS. I'm pretty good mechanically, but after reading the cautions on removing the cover/cables, etc. I found another way to get something done on the 2110 that avoided removing the gas tank - and thus the SOS selector. From reading the manual, it sounds like you can EASILY foul things up to a "fair-the-well"!! As I remember, there are several adjustments that you can throw off if you are not REAL careful!

Good luck,
Larry

Hi Bob, I'm not trying to be a wise guy but if you don't have either the experience or a manual so you would know how to disconnect the cables, are you sure you should be taking the cover off? I would suggest you get a good manual before you start. Bill
