Had a dead battery (12V). Jump started, ran fine. While it was sitting idling, the engine stopped as if you turned the key off. Re-started without problems, drove back to barn and parked it. When I went to turn the key off, it did not kill the engine. I had to choke it to kill it. With the battery disconnected, I check continuity between the 4 lugs on the back of the ignition switch and there was continuity between all the spades on the back of the switch. I presume my switch went bad.

Before I start buying and putting on parts, what does anyone think about it??

Help appreciated.

Sounds like a bad switch. After you replace that.. I'd pull the spark plugs and put a tablespoon of crankcase oil in eache one.. then bump the engine over.. then reinstall plugs.

Choking an engine down is about like beating a child to make it stop crying. Sure.. it stops.. but is the worst way to do it. better would to have simply been to yank the secondary coil wire from the coil or cap real quick.. or snip the primary feed thru wire to the side of the distribuitor. Way better than washing the cys down with oil thinning non-lubricating gasolene..

good luck with the repairs.
