I have a 3 cylinder ford 4000 about a 71 year model and fuel is leaking from the injector pump, looks like the fuel shut-off shat. I had this problem before and I removed the nut and bellcrank from the top of the shaft then moved the shaft up and down several times, this fixed the problem for a while but has started leaking again. I would like to just change the shaft seal out as the tractor runs fine outherwise. My NH dealer told me I could not buy any parts for the pump and recommended a rebuilt pump if the leak get bad.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as injector pumps are traded on the Stock Market as "Precious Commodities". Thanks in advance, Williy

I had my CAV pump rebuilt this week.It was doing the same thing plus it had been setting up with water in it for 6 years. A lot of the parts were rusted up. I found a man in Texas Georgia that rebuilds them. He charged me less than $400.00 to rebuild the pump and all injectors. If you need his name and number let me know... Barry

Two 50 cent o-rings will cure your problem. The top cover of the pump needs to come off, as the shaft in question comes out from the inside. Once you have the shaft off, you'll find two o-rings on it.

Tell your dealer to get off his lazy butt and get you the o-rings. They are listed in the parts book and they are available. You will also need the gasket for the top cover of the pump. Better yet, get 4 o-rings and do both shafts while you're in there.

Thanks for your help, a couple bucks worth of gaskets/o-rings sounds a lot closer to my wallets liken than $900 for a refurbed pump. I am not to concerned about getting the o-rings as I have a wide variety of these, if my NH dealer doesen't want to play ball. Just don't want to pop the top off and have springs, shims and washers shooting off every direction like the 4th of July, been there before and it wasen't fun.

Reragds, Williy

Make sure the cover and the area surrounding it is spotless before you remove it. Those pumps don't tolerate any dirt or water! Also, as you remove the cover, you'll notice a spring attached to a hook. Be careful when you unhook the spring that parts don't go flying (support the other end that the spring attaches to). When you go to re-install the cover, be sure the lever for the shutoff cam engages with the notch in the shutoff link. You'll see what I'm talking about when you get in there.
