Recently purchased a 195? 800 series, needs some work but runs well. What were the original colors?

The same colors as my NAA has. This is pretty close to the original shades.

Go to your Ford New Holland dealer and get their paint.
Red (39/62)
Grey (39/62)
Those are the colors that I used on my 960 and it looks great

Colors? Like old said: red and gray. There can be some variations of shades the you'll see on tractors. Starting with the x01 series, the Ford red started leaning toward orange. Lots of older tractors got repainted the orangy color because that's what the dealer started to stock in his parts department. My 850 sports a nice shade of red underneath the peeling orangy repaint.

Here's a pic of someone else's tractor showing the colors I like. This is NOT my tractor.

Should be a 1" high casting code on the front of the rear axle, left side, I think. Mine says D55, D, the forth letter means April, 55 means 1955.

Almost, Jeff. The D is April as you said. The last 5 is 1955, but the middle 5 means the 5th of the month. So your date code is April 5, 1955. An axle cast the next day would have a code of D65 and an axle cast on the last day of the month would be D305.

XX0 is 55-58

800 is series number

Look for a sn lightly hand stamped on the left side above the starter. Will be a sn and a 3 digit model number.. I.e. 840 850 860.. etc, depending on trans and pto options / tractor options.

You can find year of manufacture with the sn.
