Ford 3000 - Battery Problems ?

Been having wiring problems, switch etc. Checked the tractor supply 12v as it sits in the tractor (Ford 3000 - Gas) and the V/Ohm meter peaks it at 10.45 volts.

I tried jumping it from my truck. After several minutes, I turned the key on and to start and you could hear my truck load down, then when I released the key from momemtary start back to on, the the voltage regulator on the tractor started clicking in the ON position not the START position.

I don't want to start buying part after part after part, but I need to get it going again. Given my battery is down to 10.45 V maybe that could be it.

What does anyone think as to the voltage regulator and or selonoid?

Thanks for any help, diagrams etc.....

Bill

First thing I'd do is start with a good battery and go from there. A battery that low could well be all your problem

I got the new switch, wired it like the old. I replaced the battery (it had a truck battery in it and I replaced with 12v D/C tractor battery. When I turned the ignition switch to on, the starter engaged. I rechecked the wiring and I have wire from the the transmission/nuetral switch on the starter terminal as I think it should be, however when I check it with a V/Ohm meter for contuinity I get the following:

Switch off: no contuinity between ignition posts.
switch - on: I get continuity between the battery terminal, ignition terminal and starter terminal!

When I take the switch out of line and all wires off of it I get the proper continuity as it I think it should be, Off - Nothing, On - Continuity between bat terminal and ign terminal.

I was sort of surprised when I turned the ignition switch on and the starter engaged.

I don't want to continue replacing part after part after part. I assume (have to say that!) either I have a seloniod or voltage regulator problem, or, and I really hate to say it, but a wiring short.

When this first happened, it started as a dead battery, then after jumping it and running, it just died all the sudden while ideling, something it has never done before. I restarted it by the ignition switch and it ran fine. When I parked it, I noticed the switch wouldn't cut it off. (Gas Tractor)..... So from there I have replaced the switch, to no avail, now a new battery and it has good fire, but there is something else that is getting by me.

Help.....
