I just got a ford 641. I can't seem to find a serial number any where. What should I look for to identify this tractor? Any casting numbers help? Also what was the horse power rating on this tractor?

I found the serial number - 610 3803. What is it?

Are you sure it does not say 640.
No such thing as a 610. There is a 611 but not a 610.
6 tells me it is a 134 cu in engine.
1 says SOS trans but they did not come out at the time this tractor was built.
0 tells me it was built between late 1954 and early 1957.

Yours is a 1954 model.
A 640 would have a 4 speed and PTO.

You're right john in la. Just going by my model # breakdown. I didn't think about the debut date of the SOS. Got to be a 640 from what he describes. Thanks.

Assuming you have the "610" with with "3803" above or below it, you have a model 610 with a 134 cid gas engine, a Select-O-Speed transmission with no pto, manufactured in 1954. I have no experience with Select-O-Speed transmissions, but reading other posts on this board, they require a lot of TLC.

Look real close at the "610" number and see if it is actually "640"...stamped numbers can be hard to read as they were done "freehand". If it is "640", that would match up. I assume the model/serial # orientations were as I asked in the last followup.

The first part of the serial number is a 640. So now that I know what I have - what do I order parts for? I see parts listed for a 600. Is that for all 600's including a 640? Is it a sleeved motor? I see some rebuild kits have sleeves some don't.

The model and serial numbers will be stamped (not cast) on a flat just forward of the rear of the starter...the model # (641) with the serial number below (but occasionally above) it. If it is hard to read (due to paint, corrosion, etc) take some very fine sandpaper or steel wool and lightly sand it.
Don't know the HP of the 134 ci engine offhand but, depending on the source, I'll bet it's in the high 30's.
