Ford 4000 or 4400?

I just bought a Ford tractor that has a 4000 decal on it. But, it doesnt look like any of the 4000s (1960-64ish) that I have seen on the internet. It is definately a later model tractor, the hood and dash are more squared off and are similar in appearance to a 1975 era 3x00 but this tractor is far larger and heavier than the 3000s - 4000s I have found on the internet.

The serial No. is : 173681.

It is a 3-cyl Diesel, with the two stage fuel filters. It is a large tractor with a very heavy U-style front axle. The headlights are in the front grill.

Is this a 4400?

Is there a good site to research serial nos? I have not found one yet.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.!!

There should be 3 numbers on the flat part of the engine by the starter. The top number is the model, middle number is the production code, bottom number is the serial. Here is a link that might help you.

Thanks! The transmission is a 8-speed.
Any suggestions on a good site to search serial nos? The ones that I find just show the older 2000-4000s.

It looks like a 4400 1967 Utility or Industrial;
What is the transmission model ? Select-O-speed, 8 speed, 4-speed with torque ?
