I recently inherited what looks like an 841 built in 1959 or 1960 based on the serial number of
( 841) on top of #62982. I know that the late 800 series and early 4000 series are very simmilar but what is confusing me is that the front end is the square grill as on the 4000 but I have never seen a 841 as the serial number indicates with this grill.
I know this tractors history through the family for the past 30+ years so I don't believe it has been pieced together. The 4 speed transmition and non live pto and all else are consistant with the 841 ?
Thanks for any help with the info and the I.D.on this tractor.

If I understand you correctly, your tractor has no round medallion above the grille. Your transmission is definitely stamped for a '57 (I think) 801 series, 841 model. Could be it started life as a '62 or '63 Ford 4000, then had a transmission transplant from a junkyard 841 donor. Or, you have an 841 that someone swapped the hood from a later 4000 (less likely IMO). Poke around for some casting codes, date codes, etc and post them here. Eventually Tony Jacobs will see them and decipher what you have. In the meantime you may find clues here:
