I have a 54 Ford with a sherman trans that is locked in high range. When lever is pushed down it just ratchets off a gear. Is there any easy fix to unlock it? Thanks

Baetke,
If your Sherman is an over/under or high/low (i.e. overdrive, direct, and underdrive), the shifter needs to move in or out going from over to under or vice versa.

As old said "you're gonna have to split your tractor to get to it" but it's getting to that time of year anyway, eh? When you get it on the bench, give a holler and someone here will get you the appropriate service page. Most parts are not available other than front seals, shims, and some of the bearings, springs and thrust washers but, a lot of us have a "parts donor" unit laying around for the eventuality of some worn or broken piece. If the cause of the problem is that your detents are worn, you will be able to "recondition them" and put new springs in. Eventually, some enterprising machine shop retiree is gonna wake up and smell the market out there for repro replacement parts for these things and then he'll wish he had stayed retired. Let us know how you make out.

You will probably have to split the tractor to be able to fix it.
