hey guys i need some expert help. i just rebuilt my lift cover on my 640 this week. i went completly through it. bought a repair kit from fnh
with all the o-rings and new springs for the check valve. cleaned parts and replaced all o-rings. the reason i rebuilt was it was not lifting all the way and bleeeding off. put new lift cover on last night started tractor in the barn and all worked fine with no load. backed up to my brush hog and it would not even move it 1/2" off the ground but the engine lugged with the load on the pump like it was trying to lift.
i changed the fluid before i put the cover on and filled with 8 qts of ford hyd oil. where do i start looking in the lift cover without completely disassembling again??? im assuming with the engine lugging that the pump is primed.

any help would be appreciated so i can work on it this weekend.

If you know where the preasure releaf valve is try pushing or pulling it. Do you have the tractor book. if you do please try scanning it and send it to me.

Howdy Jeff, did you solve your 3-point problem? Turns out our problem was a cracked line. Steel line to be exact, from the hydro-pump. It was spotted with the top link cover off. Oil could not get back to 3-point. Replaced the steel line (can't remember if return line or what) and now no more problem, works just fine. Will get more details if you need.
Good luck.

Hi Guys, I'm in the process of a rebuild myself and purchased a kit from Tisco. The kit came with a bunch of 'O' rings and a cover gasket. Being an avid reader of this site I knew if you don't use the proper unloading valve 'O' ring you will be doing the job twice. My kit looked like it had an 'O' ring that would fit, but I went to my FNH dealer and for .47 cents got part number NCA836B. It was a good thing I did, it was very different from the one that came in the kit.Hope this helps, let me know.
Dan

Jeff I am having the same kind of problem on my 1964 Ford 4000 industrial. I don't have an answer but here are some of what we have been doing. The pump has been replaced with one we know works, rebuilt the unload valve under the lift cover and checked the operation of all connections. This weekend I replaced the relief valve down on the bottom of the housing. Refilled with 134D and still can't get the arms to lift with a load on. Like yours my lift arms will raise without load but only in a kind of vibrating motion. With a load on it will raise up mabey a 1/2" (with full throttle). Will let you know what we come up with. Good luck to you.
