I have a 4610 diesel that I can't start with the switch. I can jump start off the starter fine, but this gets old in a hurry. My question is what should be my sequence of troubleshooting to determine what is wrong. Any info would be great..
Thanks..... ..

I think it a pretty straight forward circuit from the battery through the key switch, through the neutral start switch on the hi-lo lever, to the solenoid on the starter. I have to wiggle the hi-lo lever to get mine to start sometimes. It seems that the neutral start switch sometimes sticks open circuit.

Best place to check this circuit is at the base of the steering column where the leads go into the transmission top cover to the neutral safety switch and back out to the solenoid. Should be able to check for power in the crank position at the bullet connectors leading to and from the NSS. Will prove the ignition switch and NSS in an acessable spot.

I'd be looking for the wire that runs from the start lug on your switch to the solenoid.. also.. check the other lugs.. switch might not be getting power...
