My tractor has just started this. When the lever is in Position Control the bottom 1/3 of the lift range is perfect. Control it with even slight movement. But when the lever comes up past the 1/3 position it acts like it is in draft mode and goes straight to the top. Is this something that will require me taking off the cover and if so what do I need to purchase to fix it? Is there a rebuild kit that will contain everything that needs to be changed and what about changing filters and other things since the top is off?

Something in the draft control linkage is interfering with the control valve linkage when position-control has been selected. Possibly a broken connecting link between the draft sensing plunger and the control valve linkage. I'd remove the lift cover, select position control, move the depth control handle and watch the control valve movement. The control valve is in neutral when the forward end of the valve is 0.200" below flush in the housing. (.030" below flush on later models). Remove the oil exhaust tube to see the forward end of the valve. As you move the depth control handle as if to raise the three point hitch, the control valve will move the "raise" position (0.1" below flush). Rotate the three point rockshaft a corresponding amount and the rockshaft cam should move the control valve back to neutral. Repeat this through the lift cycle and watch the control valve movement. e.g. raise the depth control handle 1/3, rotate the rockshaft 1/3; raise the handle 2/3, rotate the rockshaft to 2/3 etc. You should begin to see what's interfering with the linkage. The same sequence can be used to watch the control valve movement when lowering the three point hitch. When the depth control handle is moved to lower the hitch, the control valve to should move to the "lower" position (0.3" below flush). When you move the rockshaft a corresponding amount, the control valve should return to its neutral position.
Incidentally, the way to adjust the position control linkage is to set the control handle almost all the way down, the rockshaft fully lowered and adjust the link on the control valve till it's 0.200 below flush (0.030 below flush for mid 1970 and later tractors).

Thanks, It started very suddenly and now that I think about it, it started when I used the potatoe plow which pushes the top link instead of pulling it. I may for the heck of it just hook up the heavy disc and see if it clears itself with a load on the top link. The draft may be slightly pushed in from that. I will let you know the resolution
