I have a 2n and I got a line on a 641. I need help. What are some of the weak points I should be looking for. Does this beast have the 2 stage clutch like the 941 I looked at about 6 weeks ago?

All input is welcome.

Over all it runs pretty good. Metal is ok. Small leak in head gasket needs a new rim on left rear.

Wants $4350. is that a good price?

Andy

$4350 seems high to me, especially considering the rims and gasket, I payed under $4000 a year ago for a 640 that had new tires, rims, and ran excellent.

Though mine is a '57, you may want to look further.

We have a 641 that my great grandpa bought and it is a great tractor. It doesn't have a two stage clutch though. We have a 2 bottom 16in dearborn plow and it pulls it just fine.

The 941 you looked at 2 weeks ago shouldn't have a 2 stage clutch either. Should be a 961 to have a 2 stage clutch.

Tlak summed it up pretty good. $4350 is too steep unless EVERYthing is cherry.
(Of course, $4350 isn't enough for MY 641, but then, I'm not wanting to sell it.)

If you are going to use the PTO, try to hold out for the 66x, 86x, 96x or better, that two-stage clutch would be mighty handy.

Doesnt have two stage clutch. You would have to get model 660-661 or above for that. For that price you should be getting pretty close to a cherry ride to include paint.
1.Drive done steep?(safe) hill and see if trans pops out of gear.
2.Hook up bush hog and check for hold and if pto pops out of gear.
3.Little rattle from water pump area can be timing gears going out(expensive if not tended to).
The 641 is the model I have and you should expext to pay in the range of 2500-3500 for a working seviceable tractor.
In the price range 4000-5000 I would hold out for the 860s with P/S and live PTO.
