On my 1956 (800) series Ford tractor....need to wash the engine as its collected dirt, grease, oil, etc...is it safe to use the over the counter engine degreaser??? and if so, should I cover distributor??? Any advise for me to do this as its a great tractor but just needs a Christmas cleanup...thanks tractor wizards! Paul

Paul, I wash my 841 twice a year. I use the Gunk brand cleaner as it is available just about everywhere. Cover the dist, alt, and the fuse block and regulator under the steering wheel. Be careful with the pressure washer as it can force water into places like loose oil filler caps! Wear your safety glasses and some gloves. If its really nasty, it will probably take a couple of tries to get clean. Don't be surprised if some of the paint comes off. DO NOT USE OVEN CLEANER UNLESS YOU ARE TRYING TO REMOVE THE PAINT.

Royce..thanks for the tips...just the info I needed. I helped my father rebuild this engine 12 years ago and it was cleaned then and pretty nice. Clean running tractor except for the greasy engine. thanks again..Paul
