I need to know how to adjust clutch on 800 Series, 860 Ford, Gas, 5 speed transmission. And also is there a seal that can be blown, because I am getting water in the transmission and hydraulics.

On the 860 the clutch linkage is adjusted by turning the forward clevis on the clutch rod. The clevis will have two holes for the pin. Depending on which position the pin is in will determine whether or not the PTO clutch engages. There will be two pedal heights depending on which clutch mode you choose. I prefer it to be 9-1/2" in the two stage mode but I have the angular footboards, not sure what it is on the flat footboards. Adjusting the linkage allows optimum clutch operation and makes for proprer clutch functioning. If you never use the PTO leave it in the non PTO mode and save wear and tear on it, it's an expensive clutch to fix!

Andrea,

You have to unhook the rod from the clutch peddle to allow the rod to be adjusted (rotated - may be a lock nut to loosen). The other end of the rod goes to a lever on the trans. There is an adjustment bolt there. Use the two adjustments to have the clutch peddle 7 1/2 inches from the floor board to the bottom of the peddle. There should be about 1 to 1 1/4 inch of free play on the peddle before you start to release the clutch. The clutch should release both the transmission and PTO at least an inch before the peddle hits bottom. This is not the exact procedure, but it will get you close. Do spend the $ and buy the manual that "old" mentioned.

Andrea, whats wrong with the adjustment? About the only thing you can do from the outside is adjust the pedal height. It only needs to be high enough to stop the PTO when pressed to the bottom position. Free travel, thats the distance between the top of the pedal and contact with the release bearing. Height is adjusted with the clevis on the linkage. Free travel is adjusted with the set screw on the lever that protrudes out of the trans housing. Water can not get into the trans through the shift lever on the 5 speed, unless you take it swimming. The fluids should be changed yearly and if stored inside should not have a water problem either in the trans or hyd. Also remember all three systems have seperate fluids, trans, hyd and rear axle. You said 860, would be 1955, 56 or 57...Kelly.

Water in the tranny and hyds could be condensation or if its parked out side it could also be getting in from the shifter. As far as the clutch its explained well in the I-T manual.

Sounds like you need to buy one. I-T manual FO-20 covers that tractor.
