I saw a picture in a book of an 850 with a red grill screen cover that said ford farming on it. I was wondering if this was an aftermarket item or if it came on a certain year or special model.

Also that 860 on E-bay didnt sell so i think i will go look at it this weekend. Ive been playing phone tag with the owner for two days.

Both - they were available as an accessory when the tractor was new, and they still make the aftermarket versions. Here are a few pics of my original NAA grill screen I just got off ebay recently, stripped it down to bare metal, primered it, then painted it red. I had to fabricate a stencil for the "Ford Farming" from pictures of the aftermarket versions, crop them on my pc, then print them out. I cut the letters out with an exacto knife, transfered the stencil to posterboard and cut those letters out. Then I layed the stencil over the newly painted screen and sprayed it Ford medium grey. The results are shown below.

I was having problems with caff in my radiator when I mowed, and have been looking for an original for quite some time.

Good luck,
Dan

I just picked up three of these old grille screens at a boneyard last week. They were under a pile of fenders. The price was right, free, so I couldn't pass them up. Did you have to replace any of the sheetmetal banding that surrounds the screen, and if you did, what did you use? Two of the ones that were given to me will need some of the banding replaced in order to restore them to original condition. You did a super job of restoring your's! I hope mine will measure up. Thanks for the pictures. Jerry Marks

Jerry - the metal frames were in great shape on mine (besides a little rust pitting). I only had a few small spots that were rusted through, not even big enough to bother filling them.

Good luck on yours,
Dan

I'm interested in one but have never seen them advertised (or I didn't recognize it when I saw it). Who sells them after market?

Thanks

Thanks for the kind words. I could have just bought an aftermarket version and be done with it (they are made exactly like the originals), but I prefer the old stuff and fixing them up (plus I got this one fairly cheap and just had "sweat equity" in it).
