On my 2N, is there any special antifreeze to use in the radiator (Prestone II ok) and is it any different than flushing a late model car radiator?

Old is correct. There is one caution, if you bought a new (China) radiator and it has an aluminum core, the acid in the vinegar can damage it. Also, anti-cavitation and anti-foam additives will help your engine live longer.

John Deere sells a coolant that has these additives already in it. Supposed to be made for heavy duty use, but how much better is it than the stuff wally world sells?

John, I have never had any problems with useing the vinager on/in any radiator. Of course I don't let it sit in the system for more then a few hours and then I flush it with clean/well water as soon as I can, I.E. time it takes for an engine to cool down to what ever temp is at the time.

Old,

True enough, you probably won't have a problem doing that as copper is not very reactive to the acid in vinegar. The caution was for replacement radiators with aluminum cores. The aluminum is more reactive than copper and can be more prone to thinning.

Acetic acid (in the vinegar) is one of the active ingredients in the solution used to wet etch aluminum.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas!

I was also talking about the new replacement rad. All my ford have the new impost type rads and I have used the vinager on 2 of the 3 and not had problems.

Any good brand antifreeze works well. Also as far as flushing I use vinagar instead of the parts store stuff. Vinagar works better and cost less $$. I use it 100% then flush with water after running it about an hour or so. Of course when you drain it make sure the engine is cool and when you flush it with water also make sure the engine is cool. I made an adaptor that goes in the the block drain so I can back flush the system also.
