facing ingn term of old switch two wide term at 6 oclock (battery con.)two narrow term.number2 at 10 oclock(lights ign gage cluster)one narrow term.number3 at 2 oclock (neutral safety switch and start solenoid.when key on batt. and #2 connect turn key to start sends power to #3 to start engine.the two main wires to trace out are battery(should be heavier) and wire to neutral safety switch.all others connect to #2. you will have to check new switch to see if it connects same as old in the on and start position.

Try the post a few rows up about the 3000 wiring diagram. I believe they are exactly the same on a 4000. Here is the link.

Sorry for the extra post, but I forgot to ask, do you know what year it is? Also, you may need to get a cheap meter from radio shack to get the locations correct. Good luck.

Try this link. Not sure if you are refering to the ignition switch or the the spark plug/ignition system. Hope it helps.

We need a little more information for a 4000. Is it a 4 cylinder engine [early model] or a 3 cylinder engine [late model].

It can't be a six cylinder if its a Ford 4000, so ask him how many sparkplugs it has. That should give us the info we need.

Angie, I'm a bit confused here. In one post you say it has 6 wires and I'm assuming going to the switch. In another you say it has 3 spark plugs. Is this not a diesel tractor? I don't recall a gas having 6 wires. If a diesel I can get you the color code tomorrow.

Angie, sorry I missed your post yesterday but I guess It moved to second page. Even tho you have 6 wires you only have maybe 4 positions on the switch. You have got to figure out the hot wire and go from there. Will have a manual tues if you don't figure it out. Might post a new post.
