I can get a hold of a rebuilt ford 7000 (Turbo) diesel, that I would like to install instead of rebuilding my 5000 diesel engine. Possible? What is diffrent? Isnt the 7000 just a 5000 engine with a turbo. Of course inside the engine I suppose that diffrent pistions, crankshaft and so on is used. But does a 7000 have the same mounting as a 5000?

There were also differences in the gearbox and rear axle between the 5000 and the 7000 to cope with the extra power.

There were also differences in the clutch, waterpump and radiator. Plus the internal changes in the engine to pistons, rings, crank and waterpump.

I think that the later 5000's were updated to the 7000 specs but the early ones might have the earlier parts.

I'm thinking about the possibility of overheating with the old radiator etc. Otherwise it will bolt straight in.

It is a direct bolt up. Some details may be different, especially if the donors are different vintage.

I have on that I put in a 3000 so I am sure the 5000 would be a easier fit.

I had a 3000 with a bad engine and I had a 7000 engine that I bought at a auction.... decided I would see if it would fit... after extending the radius rod and drag links 5 inches and cutting a 5000 hood shorter so it would fit...everything looks great. After adding a 7 blade fan I don't have any problem keeping it cool with the 3000 radiator. Just have to keep in mind the drivetrain that is behind all that HP!
