Had to run to town this afternoon for some seed. On my journey I spotted 3 different Fords that I think are all 3000's within a 5 mile radius. Now you may say so what's the big deal, but this is Green and Yellow country. Pretty rare to see much other than JD's in these parts.
This first one I had seen before, but it's been a while. It's a 3000 gas 8 speed. I looked at it about a year ago and he was asking 5000 then. I was told today it's 4500. It has a brush hog hooked to it, but I'm pretty sure it's not included. This is a very nice looking tractor and last year it ran very nicely. After a year who knows, but since the hog is on the back and it had grass on top of it, I can only assume they have been using it recently. This place is actually a junk yard for tractors etc. Rarely see any blue out there when you drive by. If someone wants to know more about this one, one of the pictures has his sign in the background with the number. I personally have never done business with them and I'm not trying to advertise it for him either. Just passing along what I saw on my journey today.

The initials rgv, palm trees in the background, that would be the Rio Grande Valley. Mc Allen, Mission, Edinburg, Mercedes, Los Fresnos, Harlingen?

Bingo Larry! Well, almost anyway. You bounced all around us. We have a La Feria mailing address, but are between La Feria and Harlingen. That"s just north of Mexico and just south of a lot of wild fires.

And then down the road..... in reply to rgv tx, 01-05-2006 17:52:04

And then down the road I spotted this one, and it's for sale too. I gave the guy a call when I got back home for the heck of it. He's asking 3500 for it but was quick to admit he's probably going to have to go down on the price. When you see the pictures, you will understand. It's had a fresh coat of blue paint recently thrown....I mean sprayed on it. Pretty obvious a lot of what the paint hides in the pics. He said it runs good, but is a little hard to start. The brush hog does go with it I was told, not sure if it works or not.....may just be using it for extra weight on the rear! If anyone wants the phone number, just ask....or you might be able to read it on the FS sign. Oh, as you can see it labeled as a 2000 but I think it's a 3000. I tried to read the numbers on it, but the paint is pretty thick and I didn't want to scratch it up! :

Same tractor, view of hood. Notice the extra ventilation. Those nice wrong fenders are in the same shape....as is the brush hog. Did I mention this is a diesel?

Man - it has the RARE blue steering wheel option! You need to grab that one before it gets away! :-)

Ewwwww! It cost more to make that fricken mess with those gauges than to buy the new cluster. Why do people do things like that? That's bacically a parts tractor. The whole thing looks like it was slapped together with bubble gum and baling wire, and then given a DuPont restoration, right over the hundred series fenders..... It looks to me like it's a basic 2000, probably with non-live PTO and the pan seat. It's a basic tractor, and worth little. Biggest value is for the components..... primiarly the engine, if they're good.

And strange as it may seem, this beast has a very nice set of spin out wheels on it. Go figure.

Ford #3 I saw today in reply to rgv tx, 01-05-2006 18:12:10
third party image

And finally this one, not a mile from the house. I saw this one a few months ago, they were spreading some form sand for a slab. Next time I went by it was gone. The building has been up for quite some time now but isn't open yet. Today I saw the Ford there again but now it's sporting a new paint job. It was this same color when I saw it before, but it was real thin and looked awfully bad. I'm guessing this is an industrial model by the yellow?

Isn't that a narrow front end?
What part of TX? Remember, we take up about a third of the country!
I'm down at the bottom, very bottom. Notice the green grass / weeds in the pictures. The pictures were taken today.

Yes, the 740 is the Row Crop (High Clearance) version of the 600 series Ford (134 engine). This one has the 2 wheel narrow front.

I'm in Lampasas (Central Texas). I thought 956 area code was down in South Texas.

Ah yes, good old Lampasas. Beautiful country up there. I hope your not near any of the fire danger, seems pretty bad from about SA north I hear. We had lots of strong wind today, but we are pretty green here right now. We had about a week of bad fog last week, so things did green up nicely just from that little bit of moisture. We have flood irrigation here and I flooded the yard around the barn a few days ago after mowing real low, no sense in risking anything.

Several days ago you posted a problem with your tractor. Seems that it was missing on one cylinder. Did you get it going and what was the problem.

Howdy JD,
I finally was home for a whole day today and actully managed to take some time out to look at the Ford again. I just sat down here and am catching up on Emails etc. and shortly plan to post what I found, or actually didn't find. Watch for a new post later this evening with the same title as last time, "3 cyl. diesel running on 2 cyl."
