The diamonds tell you it came with cast iron cylinder sleeves in the engine. The number is a sequential serial number and will tell you the month and year it was built if you have the right reference books. I have the right book, but it's at work. I'll be happy to look it up for you tomorrow, but you'll have to email me a reminder in the morning or I'll forget.

If you click on the serial number link to the left (under the "Research & Info" heading) you'll be able to find the year of manufacture. The book I have also gives the month. If you don't need that level of detail, then the link on this site will be good enough.

Bob, the very first serial number was 1001 so yours is the 2,610th built. Production started in August 1962 and 2,425 units were built that month. So the first serial number in September 1962 was 2426. The first serial number in October 1962 was 4810. That makes yours the 1,185th tractor built in September 1962 out of 2,384.

If you look at a calendar for that month and make some assumptions you find that your tractor probably was built on Sept 17, 1962....a Monday. The assumptions are:
Even production during the month
Plant closed on weekends
Plant closed on Labor Day.

How's that for too much information?
